Like it or not, each of us have only a number of days, but the point of life has never really been about counting how many days we have, but instead, learning how to make each of the days count – however short or long they might be! This is the timeless wisdom of the Psalmist when he said, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

A church really only has about 720 weeks to make a difference in the life of a child born into their church. Seven hundred and twenty. That’s it!

Those of you who have grandchildren now know this all to well. It must seem like just last week you were teaching your child to tie their shoes, or ride their bike, or you were working with them on how to get through a difficult situation at school. Now – well, now your children might be coming to you again asking for advice, only this time it’s on behalf of their own children!

So, the question is, how do we make the days, the limited number of days given to us on behalf of the children in our church, count? The answer is almost too simple to be true. Are you ready? You give them the very thing that is being taken away – TIME! YOUR time.

Reggie Joiner once said, “When you see how much time you have left, you get serious about the time you have now.”

I believe the church is never any closer to the heart of Jesus than when it is investing in the lives of our children. So, I want to ask you, Church, will you give, or continue to give as they case may be, our children your time and attention? Will you give them the gift that research says matters more than almost anything you can give them?

You might be like me sometimes and want to make a difference, but you’re just not sure how. Let me list just a few ways you can serve children in our church almost immediately:

• You can teach a Kid’s class, or serve in Kid’s Worship
• Serve with a NonProfit that targets working with children
• Volunteer with an under privileged school system as a learning coach or reader
• Send a child in your church a card, give them a packet of stickers, or simply ask a child’s parents if there is anything you can do to help their child.
• Easiest of all – you can pray for children…and their parents!

Jesus once said to his disciples who were all to eager to protect him from any needless interruptions, “Let the children come to me.” May we repent when we do something that would prevent our children from getting to Jesus, and may we join with the very heart of Jesus and make it easier than ever for our children to receive his blessing in their life.
